Tommy G. Thompson's State Fish Hatchery

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resource's Spooner Fish Hatchery is the largest of it's kind in the state. With 46 rearing ponds it has the capacity to produce 1.5 to 2 million 1.5" to 2.0" walleye fingerlings, 100,000 6" walleye fingerlings and 100,000 8"to 10" muskie fingerlings. More Muskie are produced in this hatchery than any where else in the world.

Browse the Visitors Center which has interactive learning stations that are informational and fun for the kids; then have a picnic at The Veteran's Memorial Park while you and your kids wet a line from the handicapped accessible fishing pier at the Yellow River Flowage. In addition, there's a boat launch, bathroom facilities and parking area. All this is with-in walking distance from The Country House Motel & RV Park

Hours of operation: The visitor center will only be open from 8 AM to 4 PM on workdays for people to come in and look around on their own.  It will also be open 7 days a week from 8 AM to 4 PM during our spring busy season (approximately mid April until late May).
Guided Tours
Groups of at least 8 people or more should call ahead to see if a tour can be scheduled.
