ATV TRAILS
Washburn
County has ATV trails that run through county forest land, some private
property, some township roads and also the Wild River's
Trail which is a Mulit-use Trail funded by the State of
Wisconsin. The majority of the ATV trails are located in the
south eastern section of the county.
For

Clarification on ATV use on county forest
lands and the Wild Rivers Trail:
|
ALL county forest lands are closed to ATV use
between April 1st and the Friday before Memorial day weekend.
Wisconsin DNR Outdoor Reports
The exception to this is the Wild Rivers Trail,
which is open year round except when the fire danger rating is Very
High or Extreme. When the Fire Danger Rating jumps to very high both
DNR and County Forest employees do post closure signs at various
locations along the trail.

DNR’s Wildfire Danger web page:
The WI DNR posts the Wildfire Danger Rating
across the state on its web page. This page is updated daily when
vegetation is susceptible to wildfire anywhere in the state. This is an
excellent fire prevention tool as well as an information source to the
general public. In addition, people can also click on the general area of
interest to them and find out burning permit information, detailed contact
information and fire information for their local area.I

| **A NOTE FROM THE DNR: WILD
FIRE AWARENESS:
The vegetation in Washburn Co.
can be very susceptible to wild fire at any time the ground is not
snow-covered. Escaped campfires, ATV use, and illegal burning are
all common causes. The DNR requires that you obtain a permit for any
ouêà çr burning when the ground is not snow covered. (except for
cooking and campfires). Obtaining a copy of the burning regulations
is strongly encouraged for new residents or visitors. Burning
PERMITS ARE FREE and can be obtained, along with complete burning
regulations, from any Ranger Station or
Emergency Fire Warden. Burning without a permit is AGAINST THE
LAW.
*Rural home owners and vacationers
should visit FIREWISE a page
created for those living and vacationing in fire prone areas. Know
the rules, the last major fire in this county destroyed 11,000 acres
and 159 structures in less than 6 hours. |
